TAR ROOF

I just purchased a Commercial building wiht a tar roof... The purchase was "As Is" and i got it for a steal...
The roof leaks in a few places and its a tar roof.. My questions is this
Does anyone of a inexpensive do it yourself method to patch a tar roof without getting ripped off by roof contractors?
