I don't recall anyone bringing up the smell issue although I will admit that initially I can smell the roofing felt until the floor is laid down. The smell has done away after that.

I know that installers/handymen have been using roofing felt for years between subfloor and luan and even for hardwood floors.

I will let you know how it turns out over time. I will let the summer and tenant wear take its toll on the roofing felt and see how it turns out regarding odor and sound.

Steve-WA was the one who had posted a number of times and even left me a voicemail saying that he had installed some laminate with roofing felt and tenants complained of the noise.

To be honest, I am using this in low end and higher end (for me) homes. These floors pop so big and if there is a wooden type sound or a crackling sound then I feel like it is a reminder to the tenants just how much better and nicer their floors are then most other mobile home folks.

If the best they can complain is that the floors creak then I am doing just fine. If they complain too much, I just find another tenant that would love to have such nice flooring and such a nice home.

I gave up long ago begging anyone to stay. My tenants know this. They have heard my speach one time and one time only. "Sorry this home does not seem to be working out for you. It sounds like no matter what we try, you simply are not going to be happy with this home. Go ahead and move your stuff out this weekend if you like and call me when you are ready for me to inspect it and we can go over the security deposit."

Or I vary it slightly to say "I will consider this your 30 day notice to us that you will be moving. I wish you well and hope that we can part friends."

So far none have moved. The baseless complaints stopped.

If they have a legit complaint, I do want to know about it and I let them know this for certain. I do not operate subpar homes. Thus the creaky laminate is so little an issue.

Your mileage may very.

Great string of posts.

Tony
