Understanding HMLs...please help

When asking for cash from a hml for a deal what exactly does one say?? I think i just may need help asking people for money and no feeling strange. i need suggestions as to how to even bring the topic up. Would something like 'Would you ever consider lending your money for an investment if the return on it was high enough?'...is something like that ok?
any suggestions would be appreciated!
