Now you sound like my old man. When I was 15 he announced our family would no longer be celebrating Christmas because it was a big commercial racket for enriching big business.
I noticed that enriching big business never stopped him from buying anything he wanted, like a $16,000 bass boat or a Lincoln Continental. But he never frittered money away on his kid's education, health care, Christmas or anything that did not directly benefit himself.
There is one thing he did for me. He spared me from grieving over his death. He never did anything for me when he was alive, and he never left me a dime when he died. I watched him die and it didn't bother me a bit. Now he is dead and I'm not and I'm happy about the whole thing.
If you want to give your children the same gift, now you know how to go about it.
