that Chinese proverb applies here. "Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime."
So if you're doing well at REI, then get your kids involved/excited about it. If you taught them and motivated them well, it won't matter whether you give them any $ or not.
